In the light of the moon

Our teenager son has a keen interest in astrology.

Since he was a toddler, Louis was fascinated by the moon. He had daily conversation with her.  At night, especially during summer, we would hang out at the balcony, and he would start long conversations with her.

More recently, he discovered jyotisha, vedic astrology and naturally, he came back to me with many questions… questions to which I have no answer.

So as often, we sat in the kitchen until very late. The questions drifted from the moon to the stars, to « what is science?» versus « what is art?», and the fine art of making chai. And drinking more chai.

As we hugged goodnight, I was overwhelmed by gratefulness for the simplicity and the depth of our post-midnight kitchen conversation and for the mysteries of life.

He looked at me and said «  Goodnight mom, goodnight moon » . In english.

One of the sanskrit words for full is Purna and the full moon is Purnima.

Purna is full, complete, perfect, whole, replete with goodness.

Such was last night.
